Wild & Free – Wild Deodorant Review

Ever on the hunt to find environmentally friendly alternatives, I decided to give ‘natural deodorant’ a try. Reader, I was skeptical. Let’s face it, as soon as we become aware of sweating as teenagers, we work in every way we can to prevent it. The damp patches, the smell and the discomfort. Would a natural deodorant stand the test?

In came Wild. Wild is a sustainable natural deodorant delivered straight to your door. The packaging is made of aluminium and recycled plastic, with compostable, plastic free refills. Wild’s mission is to reduce the ‘throwaway culture’ of bathroom products while still offering an effective formula that leaves you armpit fresh and loving life.

Wild Case

Another great selling point with Wild is you get to pick the colour of your case and your fragrance. Cases come in Aqua, Coral, Purple and Silver (they definitely did not have purple when I picked or I would have gone for that!) and the scents are: Coconut Dreams, Orange Zest, Bergamot Rituals, Mint Fresh and Rose Blush – there is something for everyone! I went for Aqua and Bergamot Rituals, which smells lush without being overwhelming.

Wild Scent

Wild also 3 purchasing options – you can Subscribe & Save for £12, with the option of joining their flexible subscription service. They also offer a One Off Purchase for £25, where you receive a case and 3 refills or the Full Monty for £32, which is a case and 5 refills!

Wild Subscribe

As always, I think with any ‘plastic alternative’ – the initial cost is always high. You can buy single use (by this I mean non-refillable and throwaway) deodorant on the high street for £1, whereas even £12 feels a little steep for fresh pits, but you need to keep in mind that you won’t need to buy the case again – just the refill! If you worked this cost over time, there would definitely be a saving.

The above is how Wild arrived – it comes in letterbox friendly packaging so you don’t have to worry about missing it if you are at work or out and comes with easy instructions on how to insert the refill. So once the refill is in you are ready to go!

I feel I timed this test really well as I wore Wild on some of the hottest days of Summer. I also picked up a part tine job delivering pizzas midway through lock down, so hot summer nights, polyester uniforms and the heat of the pizza oven really put Wild through it’s paces.

In all honesty, I would say that if you like your armpits dryer than the Sahara, natural deodorants probably aren’t for you. For me, a negative of Wild was the sweating, you still sweat. Sweating is natural and you are supposed to sweat but I found that a lot of the times my armpits were dripping when it was roasting hot. But I didn’t smell – which was a massive plus! I felt and smelt fresh, if a little damp by the end of the day.

All in all, I really enjoyed using Wild! I think I will probably save it for a winter deodorant if I am totally honest, but it went a long way in convincing me that natural deodorants do work.

Pro’s of Wild

  • Reusable packaging – you only need to purchase the case once and the refills are compostable.
  • A good choice of scents – something for everyone!
  • Great for the environment – no more ‘throwaway products’.

Con’s of Wild

  • You will sweat – for me, Wild did not stop sweating.
  • Initial cost may be high for some – there is a big saving over time though!
